WHITE BEACH – DEAD CALF
(Most pics her except dead calf are taken by Monique Teggelove.)
I have had Monique staying with me since Tuesday. Monique Teggelove is a lovely Dutch woman who sold her house 3 years or so back and decided to travel the world. She has been hiking from Greenland in the North to Antarctica in the south. Now she´s on her way to Bosnia to help complete the building of a house for a poor family there. Bosnia isn´t very far away, but so much ruines after the war still…
We have had 2 wonderful days at Kjerringøy. It started off with St. Hans eve dinner at Ane Øverås (sculpturer) house with her mum, mum in law, cutipie son Tord and the fab Merete and her super cute son Ailo. Merete came to the cabin and picked us up and I literally brought the soupkettle with fishsoup in a blanket…Cool! It was a superduper evening spent eating, chatting and playing around with the two youngsters.
It was nice to have someone to share my enthusiasm for Kjerringøy with. We where actually having to buy sunscrean for our cycling trip..Summer is here. But first we ate homemade vegetable soup and bread at Ysteriet. Moniques treat. The local seniors where out for lunch as well, looking sweet. I had a chat with 93 year old Nils Johansen who I have met on my previous Kjerringøy stay in October 2008. I rented a great little cabin of him called Knausen. His wife died this summer. Sad. But she had alzheimers, so it was for the best. It was nice to see him. I will go on a visit tuesday afternoon on my birthday next week i think. Maybe i can bake a pie!! I will try and find a recipy for it.
Summer Summer summer came

Fly Like An Eagle
I wanted to show Monique the wonderful beaches at Strandå and Eidsvika. So we got on our bikes again. After 45 minutes and a quick stop at Strandå we where just turning the corner of Strandåtid when first 2 then 4 eagles appeared. They where out searching for food and as we stood and watched they could not have been further away than a 50-100 metres up. Massive beautiful wingspan. We could see the various shades of brown and white.
Down on the beach I was slightly shocked to see a brown body lying in the stranded seaweed. First I thought it was a dead seal, but as I approached it it was a young calf lying there. It must have been only dead for about a day because there was no smell. What a sight. The eyes where gone and it´s stomack torn out and lying on the outside. Was it the eagles who had caught it? Especially since it hadn´t been eaten. I wonder why….Maybe the eagles had been frightened. What a contrast then with this small dead animal with it´s teeth grinding still, lying on that still white beach. Here´s some photos… It is somehow still sweet in it´s own way. I put a little cross (for good luck) and a feather next to it. I also told the kids at ICA so they could phone the local farmers. On our way back I felt a bit sick, but we saw a fox and that helped.
Almost like Flode…Poor sweet thing.
Fjære – Midnight Sun`O`Barbeque
For a late supper we went to the Fjære beach with a bag of firewood (that Andre at Ica just gave med) and veggies and fishburgers and a few beers.
We made up a fireplace using a circle of large rocks. It was gorgeous in the midnight sun. And what a great fire.
We had everything we needed and spent 4 hours there watching the light change with the movement of the sun. Finally it was staying just above water….

And on our way back up the foresty hill to get the bikes and return to our yellow cabin we
walked to a field that reminded me of Eden.
